ESS-13 is pre-mixed with our E-13 compaction aid, pumped in pre-measured quantities into the soil with conventional earth moving equipment. The treated soil is then compacted in two consecutive six inch layers.

TREATED AND COMPACTED INSTALLATION

The procedure for constructing the soil liner is to place the treated soil in layers of six compacted inches each until the specified liner thickness is attained. No liner shall be placed during conditions of freezing temperatures. Typically the lake shall be over excavated by the specified liner thickness with side slopes no steeper than 3:1. During the excavation process, a low profile mixing pad of select soils for use as liner material shall be created. This mixing pad may or may not be inside the lake. Subgrade to be graded smooth, compacted and free of rock outcrops or other foreign debris. Subgrade will be proof rolled to a minimum of 90% ASTM D698 or as approved by your Seepage Control representative.

Waterborne Installation Step 1The desired goal is a uniform soil, water and emulsion mixture. Typically a 2,000 gallon or larger water truck is required for moisturizing the mixing pad with water and the specified amounts of soil sealant and soil stabilizer.


Waterborne Installation Step 1The material is sprayed-on, preferably with a 1500 gallon water truck with a spray bar, boom, and hose with fire nozzle.




Waterborne Installation Step 1The mixing should be accomplished by discing with an offset type self-cleaning disc sufficiently weighted to produce full mixing to a depth of six inches, or other approved mixing method. Multiple passes are necessary to achieve a uniform mixture. Each six-inch layer, typically transferred from the mixing pad to the lake by use of a self loading scraper, shall be spread on the subgrade of the previous layer in preparation for compaction.

Waterborne Installation Step 1Each six-inch layer shall be compacted to at least 97% at optimum moisture or 2% below as determined by ASTM Method D-698A or as approved by Seepage Control, Inc. Compaction shall be accomplished by a sheepsfoot compactor.

 

Waterborne Installation Step 1To prevent desiccation, cracking or drying out during and after placement, the soil liner shall be kept moist until the lake is filled. Preventive measures need to be taken upon initial filling of the lake to eliminate any possibility of erosion of the soil liner at the inflow area.

 

Waterborne Installation Step 1If the lake cannot be filled right away, then an ESS-13 Spray-On application or soil cover may be added as a moisture barrier.
